Current Status of Electric Bike conversion Kits in the U.S. Market

More than a decade ago, the Electric Bicycle industry began a series of transformations. Electric bicycles of various shapes, sizes and price points have come out one after another, but the needs of American consumers have never been able to be grasped. In fact, before the bicycle market "emerged", most of the unique DIY electric bicycle conversion kits lined the streets of the United States.
Dealers say price is the most critical reason consumers choose to refit rather than buy a complete vehicle all at once. The price of a heavy-duty entry-level electric bicycle remains high, and for consumers who already have bicycle wheels, the functions of the former can be realized by simply adding them. Since the government has looser restrictions on the use of modified cars on the road, modification has become a more cost-effective option.
There isn`t much reliable data on the size of the domestic e-bike modification market in the U.S., but retailers and suppliers say the outlook is bright. Ed Benjamin, president of the Light Electric Vehicle Association, concluded after analyzing customs import data that about 24,000 DIY conversion kits will enter the U.S. market in 2021, while he also said the true figure is likely to be higher. In addition, the dealers said that the elderly and retirees are the main consumer groups, which coincides with the target consumer group positioned by the electric bicycle brand.

Another target audience is people with physical disabilities who need the assistance of tricycles and hand-cranked bicycles to take care of themselves.
